Rad Reading-January

This month I read a book called “The Remarkable Journey Of Coyote Sunrise” by Dan Geminhart. This book is about a girl named Coyote and her dad Rodeo who live in a bus. Just the two of them in a bus together going from nation to nation having fun in their life. They are in a bus because Coyote’s sisters and mom died in a car accident and she was really close with them. She hasn’t been home in a long time and she finds out that the park in her neighborhood that her mom and sisters used to go to is getting demolished. She makes her dad drive back to the park which is 3,600 miles away without him knowing. Along the way she makes some friends and adopts a cat. She buried and treasure box in the playground with her mom and need to go back and get it. She thinks that traveling home is going to be hard but little does she know it could turn out to be very amusing.

The reason why I liked this book is because I like how the adventure going back to Coyote’s home town is a very fun and bonding experience for Coyote and her dad. The things that they do is very fun, for example going to the gas station. Coyote thought she was just going to get a simple slushee and keep going but she finds friends to hang out with and has an amazing time with them. She figures out that they also do not have a lot of money and they end up giving Coyote a cat to take care of.

My favorite character is Coyote. I love Coyote because she is a very positive person. She thinks highly of getting to be able to get the treasure box and dig it out of the park before construction workers take the whole park apart. She doesn’t think about the bad things that could happen and thinks positively and keeps trying to get to the park even though she is lying to her dad during the ride there. The character trait I chose for Coyote is optimistic. I chose the word optimistic because Coyote is very positive. “How about you guys and your family come to my school bus?” I chose this trait because it shows how kind she is being to other people and allowing people to come to her home was very kind of her.

My favorite quote from the book is, “Some folks might think that a kid like me, living on the road and whatnot, would be unfazed by being left behind like that.” This is my favorite quote because after that quote she explains how it’s not true. How she doesn’t show a lot of emotion and is a very hard to break person. She doesn’t think back of what happened and think that she did anything wrong or it was something that she did. She has gone passed the fact that her sisters and mother have died and left that in the past.

“We Must all Face the Choice Between What Is Right and What Is Easy” Domebeldore Quote

The title is the quote I chose. I chose this quote because I am the kind of person to just hear someone say something and then say yes or no right away. I want to be able to actually think about my decision for 30 seconds and think about if the thing people are asking me to do is right or wrong. For example, if someone asked me if I want to start in a basketball game, I would think about saying yes or no. If I say yes and then I get to the game and I tell my coach I do not want to start anymore I could get in trouble, but if I sad no then I could regret it and wan to start. So I think I need to work on thinking what is right when I say an answer to someone asking me a question. Sometimes I don’t push myself in times where I can. For example, doing extra credit, or pushing myself to run faster in the mile. Those are some major things where I could push myself way more than I usually would.

Who is my Hero

My hero is Steph Curry. I choose him as my hero because he inspires me when it comes to basketball. Steph Curry is a professional basketball player who plays for the NBA. He is a point guard and shooting guard. In my opinion he is the best shooter in the NBA. I like the way he plays and the fact that he is very short makes it even better for me because I am usually one of the shortest people on the court. To me also he is one of the best players in the NBA. I love watching him and the Warriors play and winning their games. He is a beast on the court and I look up to being one of the best players on the floor someday. Practice is everything in life, and if I want to be like him I have to practice.

Perseverance

The word I chose for 2024 is perseverance. There are a few reasons why I’m going to focus on this word this year. I am going to not quit during school and not just give up when something is hard. I usually think I’m going to be really strong in some things I do in school and then they turn out to be really hard. So I start thinking I can’t do it and just write random things because I get mad.

I think that when I play basketball I tend to get really mad at myself for messing up and I just don’t try at all. Well that leads to getting yelled at by a coach and making everyone in the gym run. So this year in 2024 I am going to try to not give up while practicing basketball and give 150% effort while in skills.

The last thing I would like to persevere in is hanging out with friends more. I feel like I usually deny hanging out with people because of how much basketball I do but this year I am gonna try to make more time to hang out with my friends.

Rad Reading-December

This month I read a book called The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. This book is about a robot named Roz. She really likes to explore and look around the island that she is on. She doesn’t know where she is or why she is there but she knows she has to survive. After battling a very harsh storm she realizes that life on that island is not going to be very easy. As she became friends with the animals on the island she starts to get her way around the island. Until one day her past comes to haunt her.

I liked this book because it is very adventurous. I love how Roz tries so hard to survive even though it’s really hard and she has never been around wilderness before. Since she became friends with animals she starts hanging out with them a lot more. She realizes that she becomes really damaged and she tries to find the people that made her so that they could repair her. Every chapter is basically about her and an animal having a conflict and Roz trying to survive from that animal.

My favorite character is Roz. I love how she is very protective of her self and her friends and tries not to get hurt in the wilderness. The character trait I chose for Roz is adaptability. I chose this character trait for Roz because the ability she has to blend in with the environment is incredible. The quote I chose to represent this character trait is, “She spread her arms wide and clamped each of her hands onto the cliff side.” Roz saw a crab climbing the mountains and she wanted to try doing exactly that. Every time she stepped she started to approach the top. She started to get faster and faster until she got the hang of it.

My favorite quote from the story is, “She quickly scanned the area to make sure there were no pinecones.” This quote is meaningful to me because I think it might symbolize foreshadowing. It gives off a kind of spooky vibe and people would get spooked out because the wind kept getting louder and louder which kept making the pinecones fall.
