The Trouble Making Otter

One of the baby otters were not acting well so its mom took it by the neck. The mom took the otter all the way down to the bottom of the lake. It got in trouble so he had to stay under for 20 min. A little while after he got in trouble his mom was mad for the rest of the day at him and he was thinking about running away. He almost did run away but then he realized how much his mom and siblings have done for him. So he decided to stay but just ignore everyone for the rest of the day. The next day game and he was all refreshed. Some how his mom didn’t really talk about what happened… The otter was very concerned and asked his mom about what happened yesterday. He asked his mom “Mommy? Why are you not mad at me for what I did yesterday?” So his mom said “ You didn’t do anything bad yesterday?!” Then the baby otter realized that it was all a dream.

Rad Reading – November

This month I read a book called Blended by Sharon M. Draper. This book is about a girl named Isabella who is half black half white. She is very confused on what people should call her by her race. Is she black? Is she white? She thinks that she is a nobody just because she is two races and doesn’t know what to be called. There happens to be a noose at her school and was placed in a black girls locker. That made Isabella very worried for her friend Imani. Isabella is also still confused because she doesn’t think that a noose can be placed in her locker just because she is half white.

The reason why I liked this book is because since Isabella’s parents are divorced and that makes Isabella very different. Most of the chapters are named Mom’s Week or Dad’s Week. She hates that she has to switch houses, switch nicknames, switching backpacks. Isabella feels like she has to be a different person every time she switches houses. She feels like a push-me-pull-me toy and she hates it.

My favorite character is Isabella. I love her because she has a lot of drama and action going on in her life, switching houses, and even switching identities. The character trait I chose for Isabella is narcissistic. I chose this word because Isabella is very worried about being mixed. She would like to be one race like just black, or just white. One quote that represents this character trait is “Daddy? Are you and Mommy just splitting up because you’re black and she is white?” She compares herself to all of the other kids at her school and doesn’t like that she is half and half, and if Isabella is only seen as half of this and half of that, and if people base it off of identity and skin tone, then how can Isabella ever feel like she’s whole?

My favorite quote from the book is, “It’s funny when dad lived in California, Mom’s house was where I lived, It was home. But now I don’t really feel like I have a home, It’s more like I’m going to my Dad’s place, or I’m going to my Mom’s place. Not staying, going.” This quote is really meaningful to me because I think it shows how Isabella now never feels like she is “home”. She always feels like she is either going to go stay with her dad or mom. Never “home”.

What I’m Thankful For

I am so thankful for many things this year, here are my top three. The first things I’m grateful for is my mom and dad. They take a lot of time out of their life to do fun activities with me like going to Disneyland, or going on vacation, and even just going to a sports game in LA. I play on a club basketball team and they take so much time out of their weekend just to go to all of my games and my dad coaching them. The second thing I’m grateful for is my dog. My parents surprised me and my brother with my dog named Ruby. They usually are really busy when they pick us up so always one of them would pick me up. So both of them came to pick me up which I thought was very odd. So they said we were going to visit their friend in LA but they just surprised us with a dog there. The last thing I am grateful for is my basketball life. My dad started coaching me when I was about seven years old. Then we started moving to club basketball and then he created his own club called HC Supreme. I have made a lot of new friends on that team and there were some new people that came that have become my best friends. They really mean a lot to me and that’s why I think that I am closest to my basketball friends. I see them almost everyday and I practice everyday.

My Three Wishes

If you had been given three wishes what would you ask for? The first thing I would ask for is $50,000. I want $50,000 because I could buy an E-Bike and everything I want from Sephora and Ulta and Lululemon. I could also pay for college. The second thing I would wish for is a new dog. I want a new dog because I already have one dog and I don’t thing it’s enough so I want as second dog so that my dog could have a friend. The last thing I would wish for is my dream house. I want a new house because I wouldn’t want to redo my house because I think that would take too much time and work and especially money. So might as well get it for free so that I could move everything from my old house to a new amazing pretty house.
