Rad Reading-October

This month I read the book called Sideways Stories From Wayside School by Louis Sachar.

Wayside school is a book about all the kids and teachers from wayside school. Each chapter explains every kid in Miss Jules class. All the children are very different and something different happens every single chapter. Additionally, some of the kids cause trouble and get their name written on the board under the word discipline.

The reason why I liked this is because each chapter introduces a new perspective from each character perspective. It’s not the kind of book where you just keep getting deeper into the book every single chapter. You read about something different and that’s what I love about this book.

My favorite character in the book was Maurecia and the character trait I chose for her is unhappy. I enjoyed her chapter because Maurecia’s obsession with ice cream was standing out to me. For example Maurecia would come to class everyday with a different flavor of ice cream. Eventually the teacher noticed that Maurecia was unhappy and the teacher wanted to solve that issue. According to the story the teacher felt, “Miss Jules hated to see Maurecia unhappy”, since she felt bad for the student she wanted to make her own ice cream flavor for Maurecia. Once Miss Jules did that it eventually made Maurecia happy. That is why I chose unhappy as Maurecia’s character trait.

My favorite quote from the book is “So Miss Jules worked all night. The next day she brought in a new flavor of ice cream for Maurecia.” This quote is meaningful to me because it showed how hard Miss Jules worked just to make one of her students happy. Eventually she made a new ice cream flavor for everyone in the class, and I think that she is very caring and kind.

My Famous Person

If I could trade places with any famous person in the world it would be Kylie Jenner. One reason why I would want it to be Kylie Jenner is because she is really rich. She has a really rich family and is treated well by her sisters. She has a beautiful daughter she can treat and a really rich husband. She makes videos on social media and gets to go on lots of vacations with her daughter Stormi. She lets her kid go shopping meanwhile her husband is out working and singing and doing his concerts. This is why I would want to be Kylie Jenner.

My Perfect Day

My teacher has asked me to write about my perfect day and this is what it would look like. My perfect day would to wake up at 9:00am and then eat and açaí bowl for breakfast. I would have basketball games all day so I would be at the gym from about 11:00-3:00. After my games I would go to my house to pack for a sleepover at Addy’s house. So after I was done packing I went out to go eat dinner with my basketball teammates. After we went to go eat dinner at The Marketplace, we drove all the way to Yorba Lina to wear Addy lives so that we could sleep there. Her parents let all of us have ice cream at 10:30 at night. We watched horror movies all night. Some of the movies we watched were Scream VI, Lights Out, and The Evil Dead Rise. We had so much fun and the next morning Addy’s parents got us Chick-Fil-A for breakfast.

Permanent Age

I would want to be a sixteen year old forever. Sixteen is a good age because it is the age where you can drive and have a job. I am not saying that everything above sixteen you can’t have a job it is just that when you are sixteen it is your first experience to drive and learn new things. I also think sixteen is a better age because you wont be in college so you wont be so stressed out about trying to know what you will be when you are older. You can focus and high school and not worrying about being kicked out of a college because of bad grades. I would also not have to worry about paying the bills. I would play on a high school basketball team and be able to play with my basketball teammates on that high school team. I would have my drivers license so I would be able to go places with my friends and go shopping with them and also I could drive myself to the gym.

My Basketball Life

I started playing basketball when I was about 8 years old. I played a league called SAYO and I was on the team called Wintersburg. My dad was the head coach of it, but then he got too busy and needed someone else to take over the job. So, the next season my teammates dad was the head coach and I played on that until I was about 10 or 11. I started playing on a club team called Ironmen and I played on that for a couple months. I started to hate it because I was getting way less playing time than I should have. So I joined this other club team called SoCal Elite. I brought one of my teammates from ironmen to SoCal and we both started playing on that. I made way more friends than I thought I would have made. So after SoCal my dad started his own club called HC Supreme which stands for Hoops Collective Supreme. We got most of the girls from SoCal to come to HC Supreme with us and even some new players. Last season we only had 2 teams. One eight-grade team and one seventh-grade team. This season we got way more girls. We have one 3rd grade team, one 4th grade team, one 6th grade team, one 7th grade team, and two 7-8th grade teams. We have Skills every Monday and Wednesday, and we have practices on Thursdays, and Shooting Clinics on Fridays. We have tournaments about 2 weekends a month. The tournaments are always not the weekend.

Rad Reading – September

This month I read the book called “Stand Up, Yumi Chung!” by Jessica Kim.

I love how Yumi is trying to find a positive path instead of a negative path in her future because when she was younger she used to not think positively and always be down on herself. She is always trying to help her parents find a way to be successful, although she doesn’t fully trust them, the person she trusts the most is the chef at the restaurant her parents own.

The reason why I love this book is because it is a very inspiring book and if you are going through the same situation as Yumi then it could help you a lot and make you understand why you are feeling why the way you are feeling.

My favorite character is Yumi because she is a girl who used to be shy but just needed some confidence and courage to get up on a stage. The character trait that I chose for Yumi is embarrassed, I chose this because Yumi feels like that if she were to go up on the stage she would just get humiliated in front of everybody since she has huge stage fright.

Mt favorite quote from the book is “If you studied hard like her, you could become successful.” I love this quote because it explains how Mr. Lee was trying to tell Yumi that if she was studying hard she could be successful. But the reason why this is rude is because he is bragging about his daughter being so successful and smart, so he is telling Yumi to be just like her which makes Yumi feel discouraged.
