This month I read the book called Sideways Stories From Wayside School by Louis Sachar.
Wayside school is a book about all the kids and teachers from wayside school. Each chapter explains every kid in Miss Jules class. All the children are very different and something different happens every single chapter. Additionally, some of the kids cause trouble and get their name written on the board under the word discipline.
The reason why I liked this is because each chapter introduces a new perspective from each character perspective. It’s not the kind of book where you just keep getting deeper into the book every single chapter. You read about something different and that’s what I love about this book.
My favorite character in the book was Maurecia and the character trait I chose for her is unhappy. I enjoyed her chapter because Maurecia’s obsession with ice cream was standing out to me. For example Maurecia would come to class everyday with a different flavor of ice cream. Eventually the teacher noticed that Maurecia was unhappy and the teacher wanted to solve that issue. According to the story the teacher felt, “Miss Jules hated to see Maurecia unhappy”, since she felt bad for the student she wanted to make her own ice cream flavor for Maurecia. Once Miss Jules did that it eventually made Maurecia happy. That is why I chose unhappy as Maurecia’s character trait.
My favorite quote from the book is “So Miss Jules worked all night. The next day she brought in a new flavor of ice cream for Maurecia.” This quote is meaningful to me because it showed how hard Miss Jules worked just to make one of her students happy. Eventually she made a new ice cream flavor for everyone in the class, and I think that she is very caring and kind.
