This month I read a book called “The Remarkable Journey Of Coyote Sunrise” by Dan Geminhart. This book is about a girl named Coyote and her dad Rodeo who live in a bus. Just the two of them in a bus together going from nation to nation having fun in their life. They are in a bus because Coyote’s sisters and mom died in a car accident and she was really close with them. She hasn’t been home in a long time and she finds out that the park in her neighborhood that her mom and sisters used to go to is getting demolished. She makes her dad drive back to the park which is 3,600 miles away without him knowing. Along the way she makes some friends and adopts a cat. She buried and treasure box in the playground with her mom and need to go back and get it. She thinks that traveling home is going to be hard but little does she know it could turn out to be very amusing.
The reason why I liked this book is because I like how the adventure going back to Coyote’s home town is a very fun and bonding experience for Coyote and her dad. The things that they do is very fun, for example going to the gas station. Coyote thought she was just going to get a simple slushee and keep going but she finds friends to hang out with and has an amazing time with them. She figures out that they also do not have a lot of money and they end up giving Coyote a cat to take care of.
My favorite character is Coyote. I love Coyote because she is a very positive person. She thinks highly of getting to be able to get the treasure box and dig it out of the park before construction workers take the whole park apart. She doesn’t think about the bad things that could happen and thinks positively and keeps trying to get to the park even though she is lying to her dad during the ride there. The character trait I chose for Coyote is optimistic. I chose the word optimistic because Coyote is very positive. “How about you guys and your family come to my school bus?” I chose this trait because it shows how kind she is being to other people and allowing people to come to her home was very kind of her.
My favorite quote from the book is, “Some folks might think that a kid like me, living on the road and whatnot, would be unfazed by being left behind like that.” This is my favorite quote because after that quote she explains how it’s not true. How she doesn’t show a lot of emotion and is a very hard to break person. She doesn’t think back of what happened and think that she did anything wrong or it was something that she did. She has gone passed the fact that her sisters and mother have died and left that in the past.
